Hello, who here uses a VU meter, not for mixing/mastering but strictly for balancing/pre-mixing a template?
Use case 1: Let's say you have CSS in your template as the foundation, and you want to add a different string library, apart from EQ and mic positions to match the tone and the room, how would you set the VU meter to match the volume? If I want to match the "mf" violas spiccatos from one library with the "mf" violas spiccatos of CSS ...
Use case 2: You want to balance your template against a ref track, would you still use a vu meter? Of course, the LUFS loudness of the ref track will be much higher because you are comparing to a template and not a finished mix. But to get a rough approximation of the difference in volume between one section in "mf" and another going up to "ff", to try and mimic that in your template
How would you set those 3 parameters?
VU DbFS or VU db?
Meter Mode on RMS or VU ?The needle moves faster in VU mode
RMS resolution at 300 ms or higher? The max in this plugin is 1000ms
Looking for practical advice. I know that using your ear is the main mantra here, but I am specifically investigating VU meters to add them to my workflow
