Question about USB ports

Open Lane

A Strange Bird.
I have a quick question about USB ports. I have about 4 or 5 USB cables plugged into the back of my computer. For the sake of this question let's just say all are the same versions (we'll say 3.2).

We're going to be moving my equipment while we get some housework done.

My question is:
Does it matter if all cables are put back into their current ports when I move stuff back? For example, if the cable that is currently plugged into the far right is put back into the far left... Does it matter?

If someone could answer this question, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Not an expert here, and I'm on a mac so that may make a difference, but macs are agnostic as to ports, and it doesn't even matter which hub it goes on, if you have multiple hubs.

Write on a piece of tape and wrap it around the cable like a flag, problem solved. :)

There is one area in which it may matter. It is my understanding that individual USB cables have different specs with regard to transfer speed.

So let’s say one of your devices is currently connected with a cable that is rated higher than the others AND that device is dependent upon that speed, and then while reassembling, you connect it with a lower speed rated cable, you could encounter issues.

This. I’ve also had PC’s that have different speed USB ports, as well. They are usually labeled, as such.
