NI Fables French Horn; Dropping Notes/Not Working at All

Hello, hope everyone is well :)

Has anyone experienced odd behavior with some or all of the French horn articulations in NI Fables? It seems to only occur with articulations for the French horn. I've never experienced something like this in any library.

I initially thought perhaps the samples for the FH didn't download correctly, but they did. I know this, because if I switch to an articulation that works, then switch back to the one that wasn't working, it will work.. only sometimes? And once it is working, it will randomly stop working. Sometimes the little progress bar for the sample will move with nothing playing. Other times the progress bar shows no activity after just showing activity, regardless if there was sound or not.

I've contacted NI support, but they're quite delayed currently. If anyone has any suggestions or has experienced this issue I'd be appreciative of any input.

If it's of any relevance, some of the articulations worked in Ableton. When I tried in Cubase, NONE of the FH articulations worked, even the ones that worked fine in Ableton.

At the end of the day, I suppose the first suggestion would be to re-download/install... But with a sub-par internet connection, 50gb+ libraries prove challenging to do such. So any other possibilities are welcomed.

Thanks!

I tried it out now, and the French horn is silent in several patches. I have not downloaded the 1.0.1 update though.
this was when I used kontakt 7.

I do not have NI Fables, but I have another NI library, namely Valves Pro.

What I discovered in Valves Pro that I need to run it in its own dedicated kontakt 7 instance in omni mode. If I load it with a specific midi channel (what I normally do), many articulations are not sounding or only incidentally.

Thanks, I'll have a play with that and see what happens. I wasn't running in omni, just channel 1. I'm a one instance per track kind of guy, so if it works fine in omni that would be awesome!

Unfortunately omni had no effect. Some additional info I didn't even notice prior to the initial post;

The voice count and cpu behave as normal on these silent patches... but with no sound. Interesting indeed.

I'm having the same issue, and not specific to the FH. I found it with some percussion instruments/articulations.
Tried to delete it from disk, uninstall/install a couple times and had no luck.

Got in contact with NI support last month, sent them a video and they confirmed the bug.

Quotes from support:

"As for the issue, I was able to check this and it appears that what you are showing is an issue that will need to be addressed by us in a future update."

"What I'm going to do here is mark this case as pending so I can keep you updated with any news I hear from the devs."

What I found as a workaround is to click the Restart button (exclamation mark) at the top bar and the articulations load back for a while, but eventually drop out again.

Edit: typo

I didn't notice that about French Horn, but since my first use of the library (in december) I noticed that some instruments play during few second and then become silent. In my case, usually the sfx (noises and so on) and percussions.
It's an issue that is shared by many users, and the dev knows about that.
The best for everybody that has the issue (and I think it's everyone, just some of us don't notice or don't care) is to send an email to the NI support.

Now we need to wait for a fix... But it's definitely not user (or system) issue. It's a bug.

It sounds like your issue is more technical, but maybe this will help with some of the cases:

I too noticed some instruments like the Horns and Flutes not playing despite my modwheel being up or me pounding on the the keys. I clicked on the main area of the problem instrument and then changed the minimum velocity to 0 (most of the problem instruments were set to about 30). This allowed them to play whenever I performed in the correct key range. However, I feel like this isn't the right fix as a key feature of this vast is that the instruments should fade in when playing harder or the mod wheel turns up.

One should also note that some of the sampled instruments are limited to their physical note range and do not fully extend up the whole keyboard, which is normal for orchestral sample instruments.

I have still enjoyed Lores and Fables since downloading the NI bundle at $90 (with ROCK10 code). I like that it kinda combines and hurries along some of the slowly evolving EVOs from spitfire (Solstice and Tundra spring to mind as most similar in "genre"). Just like the eDNA engines on the Albions, there's a ton of presets to scroll through and manipulation controls galore. I think it was worth the $45 entry fee each. The hard drive space is the bigger weight on me.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Glad it's a well known issue, noticed several posts on NI about it as well.

@nolotrippen If you were thinking about the bundle, I think it's still a good deal. Lores is quite nice and doesn't share these issues, and even pending a fix fables still has promising use for nice textural and underscore applications. I got the bundle and added Kontakt 7 finally so I could use the $50 voucher. Don't really like Kontakt 7 as much as 6, and intend to use 6 as much as possible... but figured I'd get it since the voucher basically made it free.

Thanks all again, hopefully we see an update soon because this does seem to be somewhat of a flagship library for NI, based on how hard they were marketing the bundle, which again is still a great deal if you need nice moving textures.
