Clues needed to properly install Modo Drums on Macbookpro

b_elliott

A work in progress.
I have a new M1 Macbookpro so am relatively new/inxperienced on using it.

A month ago I decided I wanted IKM's Modo drums on my new MacBookPro Ventura.

So far, I have downloaded all the Modo Drum kits (.dmg files) from IKM. I got as far as unpacking the Rock Drums kit but stopped when I noticed it unpackaged to my desktop == NOT the location I want.

Q1. What location should the IKM dmg packages be unzipped to on my MacBookPro?

==

I recall from a few years back I had to use the IKM Product Manager to install successfully on Win PC; so, the MacOS DL Mgr version is now downloaded. Last question:

Q2: Aside from the IKM D/L Manager and the Modo drum kits .dmg files, is there anything else I need in order to get Modo Drums working on MBP?

Thanks, Bill

I'm pretty sure I just let the IK Product Manager to do it all.

I then moved the sample files (in three .pak files in my case) to an external drive but IK will typically install those to /Users/Shared/IK Multimedia/MODO DRUM.

Having had a look at the Black Oyster DMG, inside is a package file: the yellow box icon. You double-click on this to install the content. It shouldn't install to the Desktop though, unfortunately as Pacifist (a good to tool for understanding what's in a .pkg file) doesn't like the format IK have used, I can't tell where all the bits are meant to go.

However, when you say it installed to the Desktop, is that a grey disk drive icon named "MODO DRUM Rock Drums"? That's normal: it's just mounted as a virtual disk drive, double-click on that and then double-click on the yellow package icon and let the installer proceed. Or go back and just run it all from the Product Manager if you don't mind re-downloading the DMGs (they are listed under Sounds).

Thank you gamma-ut! I will follow these pointers and will hopefully have things up and running. Cheers, Bill

Update Modo Drum install on Macbookpro Ventura:

IKM MacOS Download Manager - check
Modo Drum kits d/led = check
USER/SHARED/IK MULTIMEDIA/MODO DRUMS - check. [so far it contains 1 .pak file from Modo Kits]

Bugged: install one of the kits.

DETAILS:
When I click on ModoDrumsJazzy.pak a pop-up says no app installed to open this file and suggests I look in the App store.
Click on App Store: message states this app not available in my country (Canada).
hmm... likely a very basic app/step I do not understand.

fyi I have no IKM products installed on my Mac so far so not certain what I am doing wrong.

You want the yellow package that should be in the root folder of the virtual drive. It sounds as though you're one folder down in the Sound Content. A .pak file is a format used only by IK's software. I may have confused things by mentioning the .pkg extension (which is there but the OS usually hides it).

This is Black Oyster but it should look much the same. The .pak file is the one in the Sound Content folder shown below.

The yellow pretend cardboard box named "Install..." is the one you want. That will run the installer that moves the stuff in the content folder into the relevant folders on the machine.

Thanks for the clarification.

I now have installed 3 of the Modo drum kits. Message said "successful installation".

The next issue: Reaper nor Logic Pro X 10.3 pick up/see IK Multimedia or Modo Drums.

I pointed Reaper to User/Shared/IKM/Modo Drum; re-scan but no show. Not sure if I should move Modo files from Shared to User/Library/Plugins... where my other vst/plugins sit.

A sys re-start was done == no change: still no IKM on either DAW.

I am almost there -- What could be the last thing needed?

Plugins normally live in /Library/Audio/Plugins/Components and /Library/Audio/Plugins/VST for Audio Units and VST2 plugins respectively. There is also a VST3 folder but I don't think Modo Drum comes in that format (Logic won't bother running it anyway, just the AU).

Is MODO DRUM.component or MODO DRUM.vst in either of those folders? It's possible you've installed all the content and not the plugin itself.

But don't move the other stuff, it's roughly where it needs to be. However, I suspect the plugin isn't showing up because it's not there, so either grab the plugin download from the account or use the Product Manager to install it.

Thanks for this data.
I checked inside Library/Application Support and see there is an IKM folder with 149 items but no Modo Drums. Inside Application Support it shows files I added today; but, nothing Modo.

Not sure I understand your direction: "...so either grab the plugin download from the account or use the Product Manager to install it."

I may contact support Monday with this data in case there is an install issue they have the fix. Cheers, Bill

ok it looks as though they only allow downloads of the plug-in via Product Manager now. Open that up, what does it say about Modo Drum on the Software tab (not the Sounds tab)?

Also, looking in /Library/Application Support won’t tell you if the plug-in is present. You need to look under /Library/Audio as I said earlier.

100% resolved.:elephant::emoji_bow:

The key change was to be ONLINE inside the PM to do the standard Modo Drum install; otherwise, I was being fooled earler on.

Reaper and LogicProX both show Modo Drums.

Library/Audio -- Modo drums showing. yay

Now off to see what I can cook up!
