In our latest installment of “First Plays” The Sampleist presents the new Ample Sound TR6 Six string electric bass guitar. The TR6 is a face poly sample Yamaha, John Patitucci bass with a lot of extra features thrown in using the Amplesound engine technology.

Pete Checkley takes us through the sound of this magnificent instrument exploring some of the included sounds and a quick overview of the features as part of a larger program that we are currently working on with Amplesound. Don’t miss out on checking out this new technology and the sound of this gorgeous instrument.

A big thank you to Amplesound for providing a copy of the instrument for review.

It's gorgeous. I was having difficulty with the plasticy sound of MODO Bass...this should take care of it.
I have the Ample Sound Masterbuilt Jazz fretless and fretted as well as their upright bass. They are all spectacular. I've had some decent results with MODO Bass 1 & 2 but I tend to stick with only 2 models. Their upright is not quite there yet.

Hello there, new some help.

i'm a JP freak (elektric band 80's/90's era and Solo album, from JP, Marienthal, Weckl etc...).
back then JP bass was not the yamaha one, and it has been sampled in bass legends (spectrasonics), it's a very old library, not as par as what's done today, but the tone of JP can be clearly heard on Legends library.

I was checking this new sampled bass, and of course the tone seems, in regards of the demo, different.
unfortunatly no trial is available.
Don't know if it's related to the fact it's not JP himself who played the bass for the sampling (that's the most important part of such a library) or there is not a demo of tunes from this time to do a comparaison etc.
it's a nice 6 strings bass library in regards of the few demo i listened, but as i would like to cover mainly JP / Elektric band stuff with JP tone as close as possible, is there any mix or tone available in the library which could help for that ?

any suggestions would be welcome , thanks !

I had the opportunity to test the TR6 (thanks to ample sound for the trial)

unfortunatly

1/ despite the fact that the name of John Patitucci is used everywhere, he's not endorsing this ! so it's pretty uncool that the company use his name without his autorisation

2/ i'm really not sure that people who did and used this library for doing reviews or even some comments here and there ever listen one day to john patitucci... the sound is very very very far from the tone of John and the bass is , for me, not sounding great. it's lacking of attack and nice tone, and except D-code from Alain Caron, the presets are not that great. it's missing this "finger attacks" on the bass.

unfortunatly there is not much of 6 strings bass there, except Modo, and the one at impact soundworkds.
For me, the Bass legends from spectrasonics in term of 6 strings fretted to play jazz / fusion in John's style is still unbeaten. And it's not only related to the fact that john itself played the bass for sampling it. a So old library..
