So is NP using expression maps, or something similar, for those libraries that are supported? Is it likely that other libraries will be supported soon? I was about to complete Spitfire’s Studio Orchestra Pro before the sale ends, but now I’m not so sure.
We're going to support Spitfire Studio Orchestra. It's not yet decided whether it will have the Pro microphone perspectives or be a lower-cost engine with a single microphone, but obviously, it would be ideal if we can support both.

I've already tried both the BBC Core and Cinematic Studio in Dorico. The former is not bad at all, apart from failing to play trills across ties for instance. Certainly worth further investigation. CS is less impressive -- apart from taking far more system resources than the library natively which indeed Arne did warn about so it's borderline compatible at all with my system. No idea if the VSL Prime will also work with the SE libraries?

Anyway, I must give credit where credit's due -- the idea of having NP playback engines is indeed a clever one and I'm sure this is just the beginning.

I requested my upgrade fifteen minutes ago. How long does it take to receive download links?

It's a script so it should be immediate. Please check your spam folder and, if applicable, folders for newsletters, forums, etc.

Kontakt Player currently has a significant penalty for using multiple instances. Having many instances is unavoidable for us, I've already done everything to reduce the count. If we load 300 Kontakt instances for a large template, there's maybe 30 GB of RAM even if all samples were purged. Unfortunately, this cannot be changed from our end.

The per-instance penalty is very different between engines. For example, our Synchron Prime engine uses in the range of 3 GB for a full template with hundreds of instances. The Opus player is also very optimized. It starts purged and collects samples, but on my system, typically stays below 30 GB RAM even with a full-scale HOOPUS template with Close-Main-Ambient, and that's a 1 TB library.

thanks for your clarifications, Arne. It does all make sense. Cinematic Studio I normally load from VE Pro in Dorico (as do a number of others) and that helps to optimise resources. If a separate Kontakt instance has to be opened for each instrument, then naturally that will be difficult. I notice the modest requirements for the Prime library -- I assume that if that has been done then it shouldn't be too hard to add the Synchronized Special Edition (no idea what would happen trying the Prime template with SE)?

Congratulations on your release @Wallander.
I have just quickly checked it out with Sibelius + our Prime Edition, and it's awesome, I love it!
A huge improvement compared to the build-in sounds in every regard.

Btw, is it / will it be possible to export MIDI for import in a DAW for further editing (asking for a friend)?

Unfortunately not. We'd love to, but there's no good translation to MIDI. Every NPPE slot may use a dozen Synchron instances of the same instrument. They're processed asynchronously with tons of post-processing. There may be 10-20 parallel channels of MIDI that aren't 1:1 with the time in the project, and we analyze and process every note in the audio domain.

The only reason we don't have a SYNCRON-ized SE1 engine is that it will overload the most powerful machine during a tutti chord, since there's onboard MIR for every patch (we use in the range of 300 instances). Although we can turn MIR off and output the sounds dry, MIR truly makes wonders for the library and, in my opinion, an essential part. We don't rule anything out, but at the current state of our system, it's not a good option. We prioritize libraries that can be arranged for an out-of-the-box experience without advanced routing through third-party reverbs for basic operation.
