Specific nordic/vikings music related sample

Does anybody knows what kind of instrument is this and is their a sample library which contains something similar? Or maybe it's sound synthesis? It has this interesting breathy quality to it, but can't figure out what it is. It can be repeatedly heard throughout various vikings related tracks (Wardruna - Heimta Thurs, Trevor Morris - Floki Appears To Kill Athelstan, etc.).

Wouldn't overthink it that much. My best bet is that it's just a piece of a nice timbre Einar created for Wardruna, and was then later carried on into Morris' collaboration for Vikings OST.

Thanks for the insights, gonna need to try to recreate the sound. Haven't done much sound synthesis or experimentation with recording own sounds lately, so might be a fun challenge.

Consider trying vocals with reverb - reverse or slow down or both. Do the same with a brief bowed string sound - say, both strings of a Tagelharpa. Cut that short so it has a sudden end - or beginning, then reverse. Blend the two, beginning with the vocal and ending with the bowed sound. At a guess; I'm listening on my phone speaker outdoors.

No. I imagined the bowed strings. It's voice, reverb, maybe slowing and definitely cutting into bits and reversing. Probably.
