How to remove strange ringing from Hammersmith Pro?

Hi,

I am having Soniccouture Hammersmith Pro and I like ist sound in general very much. However, I get some strange resonances, which sound quite unpleasant, especially in headphones. When I listen to audio examples on the Hammersmith's page, I do not hear any such artifacts at all.

For example, in the uploaded file, I use Tbilisi preset, with effects removed, and there is this strange unpleasant ringing, that I do not know how to get rid of. I tried notching with EQ, but even with 20 cuts, the sound just becomes duller, but the ringing is still there.

Could you please help me, how to get rid of it?
Thank you!

I'm not hearing anything out of the ordinary there. You're playing root, fifth, and the octave above. That's kind of the piano equivalent of a guitar power chord, so it's going to have that strong sound. You might try reducing the velocities of the notes, so that you're playing in the softer region of dynamics, with fewer overtones. Other than that, the OekSound Soothe2 plug-in is a good tool for reducing strong resonances.

I hear what you are hearing.

I don't know enough about recording - nor pianos - to know if this is normal or not.

I just did the first bar, because which frequency needs to be notched out is going to depend on the pitch. The first pass is raw, and the second with the EQ.

BTW, the Hammersmith Tblisi preset has a VERY resonant and ring-y reverb engaged as part of the preset. Maybe your first step is to deactivate that, and find a reverb that's not so much of a special effect. Tblisi also has a fair amount of compression activated, which is going to make overtones sound more ring-y. Perhaps it would be a good idea to pick an entirely different preset from Hammersmith.

Dear Lee and HarmonKard, thank you very much for the suggestions. I have managed to somewhat improve the sound by switching to Buenos Aires preset.

@HarmonKard, yeah, there are a lot of resonating notes. Funny, some of them are not in the chord (like in this example: the resonance is at E7, but the chord is B-flat major).

@Lee Blaske, yeah, I have turned off all the effects. However, your comment about reverb gave me a hint that it's probably a good idea to filter out some resonance in the reverb send channel, not only on the piano-left-hand channel.
