Any piano sample with THIS level of clarity and realism?
Great recording, but listening through multiple speakers and heads, the sound quality isn't up to the live DG sound. The tone of the the vst and the studio recording ARE quite similar, though! Obviously I'm being REAL picky here; but truth-be-told the latest crop of studio recordings (like this DG one) sets a NEW benchmark which the usual vst piano suspects will want to meet! Some of Jarrett's last recordings used to be my personal bench; but things really have gone up a notch since then.

Yes, this is a tough one to pull off convincing with a sampled piano. This was using the Xperimenta PF2 Fazioli F-278, with a mix weighted towards the room & mid mics, and reverb through Valhalla Room 2.0Great recording, but listening through multiple speakers and heads, the sound quality isn't up to the live DG sound. Is it a Faz or a Steinway? Not sure. Important question.
I like what I hear! Do you recommend this piano? Now it has a pretty interesting price too...Yes, this is a tough one to pull off convincing with a sampled piano. This was using the Xperimenta PF2 Fazioli F-278, with a mix weighted towards the room & mid mics, and reverb through Valhalla Room 2.0
Happy to share my settings if anyone is interested.
How does it compare to the VSL Fazioli F308?Yes, this is a tough one to pull off convincing with a sampled piano. This was using the Xperimenta PF2 Fazioli F-278, with a mix weighted towards the room & mid mics, and reverb through Valhalla Room 2.0
Yep, that’s the oneMy bad, yet confused with Xperimenta Site. BF promo has FZ for usd 60.
Is this the PF2 you reference ? If so, ready to purchase.
I don’t own the VSL Fazioli (which is an F-308 grand, whereas the Xperimenta PF2 is a Fazioli F-278 grand)How does it compare to the VSL Fazioli F308?
FAZIOLI F308 - Vienna Symphonic Library
The F308 is not only the jewel in the crown of Fazioli’s acclaimed series of concert grands, but also of Synchron Stage Vienna’s exclusive collection of pianos.www.vsl.co.at
Yes, when tweaked optimally for your keyboard it’s a real beauty. Plenty of life & dynamics, but can be warm & full too.I like what I hear! Do you recommend this piano? Now it has a pretty interesting price too...

My personal benchmark is the Vikingur Olafsson Rameau/Debussy album - have you heard it?
Here's another option with the Xsample Contemporary Steinway B (close + mids mics and built-in reverb):Great recording, but listening through multiple speakers and heads, the sound quality isn't up to the live DG sound. Damn it Craig, you're gonna convince me to buy that thing yet.OK, OK, I know I said one more . . . but this thread has piqued my curiosity about how the various sampled pianos I have handle this piece. Here's Cinesamples CinePiano. Close + Room mic mix with the same Valhalla Room reverb setting used for Xperimenta PF2 Fazioli example posted above:
