Blecksaudio Distinction

I’m not really surprised, given the price point for what basically seems to be a Kontakt Full library with ~3 Gb of “synth content”?

I think many will have Zebra or Omnisphere libraries capable of producing equally cinematic sounds, made by more well known sound designers, so it may be increasingly difficult to sell libraries like this if you’re a relative newcomer.

This is not to say the library is not good, but I do get how it may be overlooked.

I hadn't heard of this developer or this library. It sounds fine in the demos; although I'm only listening on laptop speakers at the moment so I can't really be sure. The light footprint could put some off at this price point, but if the samples are good enough the price isn't extraordinary. My main concern would be the lack of a unique selling point in an instrument from a new developer. And there 'coming soon' Motion is also a very familiar idea with very familiar sounds.

So the developer may have trouble getting a foothold in the market. I'm a fan of Insanity Samples Pangea, which is a bit like Distinction and even more expensive. Pangea is only 5.39 GB (and it was less in its first release version - but with a free upgrade) and it costs £220 at full price, so more expensive per GB. It's distinction is the quality of the sounds and having a list of contributing sound designers are well known and respected. But only a few people here have expressed interest in that library.

Thank you very much for posting this. I'll check out the demos again on monitors or headphones and see what I think.

How did you find out about this, by the way? Have they been advertising anywhere? Also, if it has only just been released, you may just happen to be the first person here to have found out about it.

I thought of it being closer to Sequis and Arkhis but with evolving synths rather than synth patches.
Looks more to me like it's just synths like basses pads and leads etc. I quite like the sounds but I'm not sure how flexible the engine is to let you create custom sounds. 200+ presets for 99€ is not the best deal.. No reviews on Youtube too?

Hello everyone,

I stumbled upon this thread on VI Control and thought I'd jump in to answer some questions and introduce ourselves. You might not have heard of us yet, as we're a relatively new company, founded just about a month ago. We are a young company but have a huge passion for sounds, sound design, and music.

Our debut release is DISTINCTION, with more projects lined up for the rest of the year. Our upcoming release, MOTION (scheduled for May 2024), garnered recognition by winning the Sixth Section Sound Design Competition held by Orchestral Tools last year. This achievement boosted our confidence, leading us to finally bring our instruments to the market.

DISTINCTION is designed for cinematic soundscapes and evolving synth sounds, consisting of over 100 sound sources that can be combined in two layers and manipulated using a subtractive synth engine. Additionally, you can add a noiselayer to your sound with a built-in resonator function. We have a Walkthrough Video on YouTube where we describe these functions in more detail.

For those curious about how DISTINCTION sounds and operates, we offer a free version on our website. While the free version provides a taste of the presets available in the full version, it doesn't allow for sound customization, which is, of course, possible in the Full Version. Additionally, the Full Version features a preset generator function, which generates new sounds with each click of the dice button.

We're currently working on creating content that showcases the individual functionalities of DISTINCTION, although this does take some time. We are always curious and open for feedback on our library. If you have any questions or inquiries, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Best regards,
Lukas

I've listened to the demos in better quality. The do sound very analogue and also very stereo, with a liveliness that is all too often absent from over-pre-produced samples. I'm genuinely impressed.

I'm currently focused on hardware myself; but this could be one of the few sampled synth libraries to get my interest. (Well, one of two in the last year.)

For anyone interested, do have a listen and think about what you want from sampled synths as opposed to virtual synths. I think this could appeal to some folks.
