Dear Forum
I need some academically trustworthy online sources on the history of samplers, virtual instruments, and physical modeling plugins; in addition, the history of using the aforementioned musical devices in: film scores and music for media (union disputes), musical theatre, various bands, orchestras, etc'.

Thanks in advance!

This very forum is a gigantic logbook of that, a living archive. You should be able to read about everything that happened in those fields from 2005 or so. If you can't find a trace of it here then either it was super-secret (and even then) or it did not happen.

The other source would be http://www.northernsounds.com/ that started somewhat earlier.

Thank you for replying.
I obviously don't have the time to go over 600,000 messages written in this forum. This isn't a doctorate thesis, so I would very much appreciate a succinct summation of primary developements and events in the field.

Sound on sound has old articles up, but it isn't necessarily comprehensive as far as I know. It goes back to December 85.

It won't be succinct, but if you have a textbook that points out some milestones, you could look up articles from the same period (instead of sifting through hundreds of issues).
