Radiohead appreciation thread

Just discovered how great Radiohead is! My dad had already shown me some of their stuff before, but I just started listening to them deeply now and boy is it a gem!

These are some of my faves, especially Paranoid Android (the one that my dad showed me). It sounds so unique and different. I'm not really into shredding metal stuff (except for some Metallica tracks), but this type of rock, I like. As a 14-year-old, I'd still say older music are just better LOL!

I obviously like these styles because of my dad ;)

Please feel free to let me know your faves and why!

Great band. Not super high on my list of favorites, but certainly on that list. I respect that they always sounded like they were writing music to please themselves first and foremost, and there’s certainly something courageous, honest, and authentic about that.

The main riff in Paranoid Android is, in my opinion, one of the best guitar riffs of the entire 90s decade. And that’s a decade that included Soundgarden, who wrote some incredibly good guitar riffs.

Another favourite:

And I also love a very young Radiohead playing two songs by two OTHER very important and good Manchester bands (New Order / Joy Division and The Smiths):

Awwww man. You’re in for a treat then! I LOVE the band. The Bends may be my favourite album ever.

Also, as a composer you are obliged to be able to play this gorgeous synth intro at will, lol ;) because most modern synth plugins have a patch just like it:

OMG this sounds amazing... I absolutely love those chords!!

Going to pile on and recommend "Rabbit in your headlights" by UNKLE - Thom Yorke on vocals, on the Psyence Fiction album. I would link to the amazing video but it is DARK and brilliant, and it was done so the dialog and other sounds are more pronounced than the music. For the song I would listen to a streaming service or vinyl. Beautiful song!

I don't really have a favourite band or artist, but if you put a knife to my throat Radiohead would probably be my number two (after King Crimson). I hated Creep when I heard it (and I still don't own Pablo Honey). I thought Street Spirit was a very beautiful song. But it was Paranoid Android that really drew me in.

Dude. That album is amazing!! I still regularly put it on.

My regret with Radiohead : they were eventually not chosen for James Bond’s Spectre OST (production : “too depressive”)
That tune is sheer magic and would have fit the opening title so much better than Sam Smith.
Check on Youtube, a guy edited the title to Radiohead’s Spectre.

They are my local band, so naturally I am duty-bound to support them. I have a cassette single (remember those?) of Creep somewhere in the attic, that was before they re-released it and became really popular. Also remember setting-up conferencing for them in a former role which was a bit bizarre. The albums are great - but they are even better live!
