Looking for Ukrainian musicians/string players

I had fun once. It was awful.
Hi friends,

So I got this new gig to write music for a (Dutch/American) documentary about the healing power of (playing) music, especially during difficult times, say during or after a war. I can't get too much into the details, because the producer/team's still working on different angles. The current war in Ukrain and Israel/Gaza are examples.

I'm thinking of using a string quartet and solo violin and blending it with some ethnic instruments, like a bandura and maybe a nice, lush, romantic orchestra. Most of the stuff of course, I can do in the box, but it would be amazing if I could find some Ukrainian players to give the music a little more authenticity and meaning.

To be fully transparent; I can't tell you anything definitive about the budget, but it's likely to be for apples and peanuts. Also, this is my first new assignment in about, ehr... 14 years (imagine that, eh?!), so I'm using this opportunity to get back into the game whilst helping some of my film making friends out. And I really like the subject matter. So again, I'm not sure how you'd be getting paid - maybe it's worth pissing off my wife and sleeping on the couch for a week; I don't know. 🤷‍♂️ I'm still negotiating. Maybe if I can get a better idea of the costs I can find a way to sell it.

What we do have so far are a solo violinist, a professional recording studio near Utrecht (https://www.studioindependentrecordings.com/), a recording engineer/producer and little old me, faffing about in my own home studio. So if you happen to be here in the Netherlands; fantastic, but of course we could also do (separate) remote sessions - whatever's needed.

Okay, cool. Would love to hear from anybody who's interested. Thanks everybody!

You could go to Fiverr. The pricing for each gig/musician is always visible. I think it's easy to see who is from Ukraine because the location is always listed on the profile.

Does it have to be "authentic" ukranian instruments? Otherwise you could also reach out to this ensemble:

Tx for this! I'm thinking of using a bandura every now and then, but not sure yet. Maybe I can just get away with using a (decent) VST.

It might sound far-fetched but Gogol Bordello and Kazka (both Ukrainians) have collaborated on an album to support Ukraine. Maybe get in contact with them and at least, by chance, they can pinpoint you to someone willing to help you with your project:
