I'm going to try to write a new short composition every day this year (generally 8-20 bars, small ensembles, simple forms, all done within Dorico using NotePerformer and therefore no midi mockups, since the focus is on the writing). Whether or not I succeed at completing every day, the real point is to develop a daily writing practice where I at least show up consistently, learn by doing, and ideally suck less with every passing day.

Two quotes of inspiration heading into the new year:
”Writing is not rapturous. The only way I can get anything written at all is to write really, really shitty first drafts.” —ANNE LAMOTT
“It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap and your work will be as good as your ambitions… you’ve just gotta fight your way through.” —IRA GLASS
