How to count streams if you are not the artist but "only" credited as producer and/or sound engineer?

Hi all,

Back in the days of physical music distribution and (major) labels, it was comparatively easy to get an idea of your works' circulation, regardless of whether you were the artist, a backing musician or credited as a writer or producer. In the end, it was all about getting those sales figures from the label(s). But in a recent conversation I had with a colleague, we realized that there is no obvious way to robustly determine the overall popularity of your work anymore. Too many portals, too many distribution channels, too many self-managed indie-artists with little market insight. 8-/ Might be still easier if you're researching the numbers for a single song or album, but for names in the second or third row (i.e. not the featured artist(s)) with credits on dozens, even hundreds of releases?

... or did we simply miss the obvious? Is there a website or app that reliably determines and summarizes these figures for you, even if you are NOT the artist, but are "only" credited as the producer and/or sound engineer? Ideally something that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg and works without ten years of subscription ...? ;)

TIA!

I think it's difficult even for primary artists to get comprehensive and reliable streaming data for their works.

I too, am curious about any good resources for this info.

I think muso.ai strives to do this...

That seems to be interesting, thanks! I'll definitely look into their services, hoping that the free "non-pro" account does the trick for now. 8-) Do you have first-hand experience with them?

I just started looking at them recently. Haven’t signed up for a paying account yet. Hopefully we can get some good community feedback on them though! There is certainly a need for it if they deliver. I imagine they are at the mercy of the metadata entered in the streaming services… so if that isn’t getting put in accurately, it might be something you would need to work into future client contracts.

Hmmmm. Without further tweaking of my freshly created profile, musio.ai knows about 100 tracks that I've mixed and/or produced - out of a roughly estimated 6 or 7,000. Seems like there's still room for improvement ... ;-D ... The problem is worsened by the annoying fact that many actually available titles are listed without any credits whatsoever - much like @storyteller wrote above.

This won't work. The quest continues ...

You should get an AI program to do this job for you. They work harder, better, faster, stronger, and cheaper than humans. Remember , they will be taking all of our jobs in a few weeks. 🤷🏻‍♂️
