Multi-sampled string ensemble patch for Equator2 (Polyphonic Aftertouch controlling dynamics)

I was after a string ensemble sketching patch with dynamics controlled by polyphonic aftertouch, so I made one in Equator2. The samples are from the open source VSCO.

Thought I'd share it. It's not perfect by any means and I only recently got Equator2 (for this purpose), so I'm still learning it.

I'm not much of a polyphonic keys player but here's a quick one pass noodle. No modwheel, just polyphonic aftertouch controlling dynamics of each note. And straight out the box no editing.

The patch is attached and the samples are here

The 'String Ens' folder goes in 'Equator/Samples/Strings/'

I'll probably add staccato controlled by velocity at some point and maybe get round to doing a winds and brass.

Very nice. Equator is a great synth for these sample imports. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Doc :)

I originally looked at doing it in Kontakt but the scripting wouldn't be fun (for me). Had a look at Halion but the way polyphonic aftertouch is done also seemed complex (maybe it's not). Didn't look at Falcon but maybe that's easier.

The fact Equator has MPE and sfz support for multi-samples made it pretty easy. Also Splice have rent to own which made the price and potential Roli uncertainty easier to swallow.

I’ve imported some Karoryfer samples in the past and that went equally well. It’s weird how badly documented the import function is though. You’d expect Roli would market the hell out of it.

Hi @sundrowned ,

Thanks for posting this topic, demo track, and strings multi-samples to download and install into Equator 2 . 😎 👍🏻

Are you playing the demo track using a Seaboard 2 with MPE ?

Have you checked the Equartor Orchestral Ensembles Library add on by Roli ?

I hope they continue developing libraries for Equator 2 , to be used with the Seaboard 2, also further develop Equator 2 with more features, and functionalities.

Cheers,

I have. It is not very useful, other than providing some orchestral ensemble “pads” in Equator. Hardly to be taken seriously as something to compose with. I know that was likely not what they were aiming for either when developing it of course.

No just with polyphonic aftertouch pads on an Atom SQ.

Actually the patch only responds to aftertouch so far. I do have an MPE K-board Pro 4 so I could try adding tremolo and enhanced vibrato to MPE gestures. Though the most useful thing would be getting some kind of marcato/staccato feature for velocity. Unfortunately the VSCO samples only have a fairly short spiccato. (For personal use I might try using marcato samples from another library)

The main thing I wanted was just a simple sketching patch where I could control per note dynamics.
PolyAT seems a really natural way to do that. I hope we see more libraries implementing it.

Yes I bought it to see how they implemented it.

It definitely seems like a very interesting hybrid synth/sample player and it does feel like there could be some improvements. Even just simple things like an option to move the sound library to an external drive (You can do it with symbolic links but it's a bit of a hack). For my use case Pedal as a modulation source would have been useful but it's not available.
