What's new

MacOs ventura

Everything's fine here so far. This isn't a "working" machine though (as far as audio goes). iLok not opening was the only issue I've had so far, but it cleared itself up after a manual restart (after the initial install and auto-restart from the OS).

No major issues here, either. Cherry Audio has a minor path defect that will get sorted. Beyond that, plugins all rescanned fine in Logic. There's a thread on KVR (effects section) with more details from folks regarding what has worked and any potential issues.

Thanks!

I don't see any reason to upgrade. I just finished moving to Mojave, so I feel I did that in the nick of time.

Apart from security updates, I wonder sometimes whether I take advantage of even 1% of these OS "Upgrades"

Yeah - if it's a dedicated music computer, tough to justify an OS upgrade until something compelling comes along that's audio/midi related. However, if one uses the computer for other things and one lives in the Apple Eco System (E.g., computer, phone, tablet, watch), then there are more compelling reasons to consider upgrading. Hard to point to anything in Ventura that's a "must have" for music production.

Checking in about this -- I haven't seen alarming posts on Ventura and I don't like to get more than one generation of OS behind, lest things go off the rails.

Anyone know if the coast is clear for VE Pro 7 and Digital Performer v11?

When I updated to 13.3.1, I had major issues with Pro Tools. During the Pro Tools Helper Tool prompt , it crashed.
It never went beyond that. Started a case file with Avid but could never get passed the Helper.
However, the upgrade from Monterey to Ventura 13.2.1 was flawless.
So yes, I am now back to 13.2.1 and all's fine again.

@JohnG and everyone, I moved up to Ventura 13.3.1, in fact on Vienna's recommendation about issues I was having with VEPro7 - latest version. In LPX I get tons of pops and clicks when recording on a track, but playback seems error free when I click on an empty audio track ( switching Logic out of 'live mode' ) Vienna have not gotten back to me with a fix yet, but I see there are VST3 issues reported to them as well.

Note that Plugin Alliance are NOT Venture compliant yet, and this is causing me significant hard crashing. If you use PluginAlliance stuff, I'd hold off on Ventura. But I can't speak for DP specific concerns.

I'm surprised however, just how much stuff did make the migration up from Catalina, I was holding off for a long time. I first went to Monterey, and I 'think' it's a safe bet to go to Monterey right now.

Had nothing but issues with real-time audio since upgrading to Ventura

Thank goodness music is my hobby only
Considered a downgrade to Monterey a few times now...

I'll soon be forced to upgrade from Mojave to Monterey. Mojave has been the most stable Mac OS I ever experienced. Please, tell me that Monterey is as good!

I am still running Mohave on 2 of my 3 machines, but I have Ventura on my Mac Studio. I couldn't tell the difference between Ventura and Monterey. It has been relatively painless, but I did make it a point to ditch all of the plugins that were't AS native. The only exception to this is VEPro, which I have mostly avoided using. I am considering using Opencore to update the two older machines.
