How to get EPIC BRASS Stabs like in this track? Help needed :)

Scripter

Young KSP Scripter and Composer
So im just starting out with sounddesign and i found this track where i really want to imitate the cool brass stab from.

How could i do that in the most accurate way possible? Should i start of with brass from a library? Distortion? Ott? Or just try with a synthesizer? Any good tutorials or other sounddesign tips in general for someone just starting out?

Have a nice evening y'all. :)

Maybe it's me, but I'm not hearing anything brassy in this track. Do you mean the sound on the first beat when the kick comes in?

Please tell us when the brass stab comes in (minute:second).

Cimbassos or Bass Tbone stacc patch then mix to taste.
agreed.

It's in the bass line consistent through the track. He just means the staccatto brass that makes up the bass line rather than "stab".

edit: around :52

I can hear it throughout ah yeah as José says. If that's what is meant, it feels more like a synth patch to me. It's a great track - some solid Production skills on that! There's a growly, dry sound in there that almost feels like FM but I doubt they fired up a DX7 heheh. I'm going to guess its Pendulate because its so growly. But I've no idea and I'm def not a Pendulate expert.

EDIT: its too subjective - OP tell us when you hear the sound - you'll get less interpretive results.
EDIT 2: at many points you are hearing multiple different (sweet*) sounds combined - so these are possibly compound sounds that may consist of multiple indivdual patches / samples sounding together.

* this producer is adept at gathering / selecting / combining sounds to good effect

Also depending on the library, also try the Marcato Patches but treat them as shorts, some libraries tend to have a more pronounced attack.

For layering brass in a budget, check out Battalion at audio plugin deals. It has an XY control for layering in them up to 4 and you can mix the 4 by adjusting these axles. Or with the library you have + Battalion.

In a budget if you have money in the account, since base price is $19. Another affordable is Soundpaint as said above

Batallion is a good one. I got it for even less during some APD glitch but it indeed has some great recordings.

Yes also for example at 3.29 (at the end)

Ok in that case

I would highly recommend this one because it’s geared toward EDM and pop productions.

Brazen is included with Roses

Thanks for all the great replys, did not expect that much help. :D
Shane (Echo Sound Works) is also making a V2 of Brazen.

@echosoundworks you’re almost done with this new version, right? 😊

We are ALMOST done with a huge FREE update for Brazen.
Say hello to Brazen 2. Bigger, badder, and better.
-M1 Compatible
-Updated Vector GUI
-Resizable GUI
-4 sampler engines (Brazen had 2)
-Each sampler engine has it's own Envelope, Filter (LP, BP, HP), EQ, Distortion, Compression, Drive (4x over sampling), Reverb, and Delay.
-4 GB of new sounds

What would you mix it with or what would be your proceedure in getting it really pierce trough the mix? I guess first cleanup with eq, transient shaper, distortion, second eq, maybe ott?

I would use OTT with some multiband distortion and play the patch in octaves. Then I started to mix with EQ, Transient shaper, slight compression and some overall saturation.

I think you can just go wild and just carve out the shape you want.

Sounds awesome, what brass instruments did you use Trombones & Cimbassi?
Solo trombone playing a +8ve and +11 above the bass trombone+2 trombones patch, and then another octave lower underneath is the Low Brass patch. All just main mics+Berlin studio for extra reverb. Nothing else, no eq, compression or saturation.

Okay Thank you very much. :D Im more of an scripting nerd than a sound designer, haha.

On your track (starting around the 50"?).

You could try using some sampled Tympani doubled with some synth Saw Wave.

I'm a trombone player, and those hits sound more like Tympani doubled with a synth rather than trombones.

Adjust the attack times to how you like them, and try some nasty processing of your choice!

A touch of distortion for example.

Not too much reverb to begin with.
