What's new

Synplant 2

I first heard of Synplant because it was used by Disasterpeace on the Fez soundtrack. It always seemed interesting, but I never jumped on it back then. Pretty excited for this new version.

I've also been curious about it for years, being able to flip anything from my sample collection into a synth patch is an instant buy for me...

I love v1 too but the thing that appeals to me with v2 is that it appears to achieve everything that AI and ML can not deliver. By this I mean it's not hard to imagine how with machine learning I could throw a dozen impact sounds at it & it could use its data interpolation to create variations, but that's it.
With Synplant v2 it seems that not only does it generate interesting variations, it also gives you access to control elements (DNA?) which the user can tweak. I have nothing against presets, but a preset tends to be a starting point, which is tweaked by the user until it suits their 'idea' - which may mean the track they are working on, their aesthetics & taste, etc etc... By comparison ML churning out lots of variations with no way back has little appeal to me.

I really wish they'd update the front panel
if you don't open the plugin into advanced mode, it looks just like V1
it'd be fun to see a new take on the plant visualizer
maybe with more colors, flowers, leaf shapes

Nice way to spent the evening:

I've been beta testing this, it's REALLY cool. If genopatch is the main thing you're interested in demo it... It's really really good, but you have to realize that the synth engine is fairly basic, so some sounds will be 'similar' but not identical. I personally think this is cooler, as it allows you some creative flexibility... Plus you can get some wild results if you drag in audio of stuff that the engine wasn't designed for.
