Disk speed and where to install

I have a Mac Pro 5.1 that I will upgrade to Monterey using Open Core. My problem is where to put the operating system. I can either put it on a m2 nvme drive that runs at 730mps or a ssd that runs at 250mps.

Would it be better to have the system on the ssd and sample libraries on the NVME, or is it more important to have a quick system?
I am also putting in a USB3 card for my external disks

I would recommend installing the system on the fastest drive.
For most, if not all sample libraries, you probably won't see huge changes un real life scenarii, as most ssds are plenty fast enough.
You can test it however, by installing a library on the ssd, measure time to load a project, see cpu utilization, then move it to the nvme, and measure again.
You'll need to set up the player 's configuration accordingly.
There are both ssd and nvme settings in the Opus player. Can't remember for Kontakt.
